Washington D.C. –U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) who is a member of Senate Committee on Appropriations, last week, joined her colleagues in pushing for the Fiscal 2024 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act that will provide greater than $72 million of direct investments Senator Britt secured for projects throughout Alabama.
In the bill the senator Britt prioritized investing in the most important Alabama priority areas, such as the following:
- $20.6 million to rejuvenate as well as repair George W. Andrews Lock and Dam on the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint Rivers at Columbia, Alabama.
- $18.4 million to fund maintenance, dredging and operation of the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway.
- $12.1 million for maintenance, dredging and operation in the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers
- $11.2 million to be used for maintenance, dredging and operations at Mobile Harbor
- $10.5 million for dredging, maintenance, and operations on the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River System
Senator Britt also backed programmatic language included in the bill, which would allocate $200 million to the Appalachian Regional Commission, which serves 37 counties across Alabama and $30.1 million to the Delta Regional Authority, which covers 20 counties throughout the state.
“From to the river systems that flow across Alabama from the Alabama River to Mobile Harbor, our state’s waterways are vital connectors that provide opportunities as well as recreation and economic development in every part of our state. These investments will ensure that Alabama remains gorgeous and a wonderful place for business well into in the near future.” added Senator Britt.
The FY 2024 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act is now referred into the complete Senate to be considered by the Senate.
