The 2024 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest will start accepting entries on August 1st 2023. The contest this year is a joint venture by both the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) and the Alabama Tourism Department. The deadline to submit entries is October 31, 2023.

The 2024 photo contest will concentrate on traditional techniques of photography as well as hand-held cameras. There will be no cellphone, smartphone game camera, drone photography is going to be considered as the winning images for nine of the categories. Photos from tablets and smartphones are accepted in the category for Young Photographers category.

The contest’s photo contest is open for state residents as well as visitors However, qualifying images must have been shot in Alabama during the last two years. Any amateur photographer who isn’t working for ADCNR is invited to participate.

Ten photos per person are allowed in the categories listed below. You can submit all 10 images in one category or in a variety of categories.

  • Birds
  • Bugs and Butterflies
  • Cold-blooded Critters
  • Nature-Based Recreation
  • Scenic
  • Shoots and Roots
  • Sweet Home Alabama
  • Wildlife
  • Photography for young photographers (ages 17 and less)

Third, second, first and one honorable mention be given for each of the categories. Images that win will be displayed online and included in an exhibit traveling around locations across Alabama during 2024.
