Anniston, AL – Donoho took its decision to go back to playoffs in 2022. the Falcons are poised to make a statement in Satcher’s first season at the helm.
Joe Medley
Jeremy Satcher was a first-year head coach of the football team on a pivotal September Thursday night in 2022. searching for the right words for the perfect moment.
His team at Donoho, which needed an end-of-the-fourth to stand in the goal line at Winterboro this season He was able to remind the Falcons of the many times they’d been working.
“I used to tell the guys”If you’re looking to make it to the finals in 2023, here’s the way will be required in the present. This is the one which will get your team in contention for the playoffs today”” Satcher stated Tuesday in a preseason interview for 2023.
Donoho was able to stop the fourth down and prevailed 28-20. The following week it was the Falcons beat winless Talladega Central in order to secure their first playoff spot since the start of 2019.
After two seasons of COVID-related injuries and mishaps the team had re-opened.
Satcher starts his second year as the head coach of Donoho’s football team with the crucial element inside his backpack. He plans to make the bag more hefty by 2023.
The Falcons face a lot of challenges which includes the loss of all-Calhoun County player Logan Melton, Lucas Elliott and Garrett Orth.
Will Folsom, Donoho’s quarterback in 2022, moved to Ohatchee during the middle of the school year.
Donoho’s team is in a tough Class 1A region along with Spring Garden, Ragland and Wadley which claimed the top three playoff-qualifying spots this season. Winterboro was one goal away from giving Donoho the 4th and last playoff slot is sure to seek revenge.
There is no guarantee However, it appears that the Falcons have plenty to advantage.
The roster of players includes those from other sports that have been successful. The new quarterback Kai Cleckler has shown a strong arm at the hot corner and can throw an entire football up to 60 yards, Satcher said.
All-county football players Marcus Lawler and Hayes Farrell have played a major role in helping Donoho’s baseball team to make significant playoff runs.
Linebacker Richard Goad, a college-sized wall in the goal helping Donoho to win two consecutive Calhoun County soccer titles, was an all-county linebacker when he joined the team in 2022.
Their experience of winning across other disciplines “is significant,” Satcher said. “It’s all about competition and winning.”
The same players were instrumental in re-igniting winning football in the last season.
They made it happen by imposing a home-away schedule that was unfavorable in 2022. However, the 2nd season in the two-year AHSAA Reclassification cycle will bring a more advantageous home-away split. The non-regional adversaries Weaver as well as Pleasant Valley and region heavies Spring Garden, Wadley and Winterboro are set to play at Lentz Field.
Still not hung up on last year’s hopes The Falcons are able to dream bigger in 2023.
“We met one goal with going to the playoffs, but we didn’t meet the having-a-winning-season goal, so that’s the first goal,” Satcher said. “Have an overall winning season, then get to the playoffs, and beat the playoffs in the first game.
“It’s about consistency and disciplined, as well as paying attention to the smallest of details.”
The idea of having that as their base in 2023 goes back to a Wednesday night, 2022 in 2022, when the Falcons were facing the line of goal Winterboro.
“It was a huge success, because it shows that hard work pays dividends,” Satcher said. “It proves that, no matter what they set their minds to they are able to achieve it. …
“It was just an idea that the way we did it last year, then we can repeat it next year.”
