In this segment of Juneau’s Afternoon
On August 15, on Tuesday, Juneau Afternoon will air the season one episode summary from the Future Women of STEM (FWoS) Podcast. In this episode we review the club, its objectives and the process by which the podcast came about thanks to one of its members, Elizabeth Djajalie.
Future Women of STEM is an high school-based club on Thunder Mountain High School in Juneau, Alaska. It is a network of women in their teens who are committed to empowering girls and young women to explore STEM (science engineering, technology and math) fields and careers. The members of the club interact with the larger community of teachers, students as well as women who work in STEM on a regional and national, state, and international level. Each year, members of the club listen to women in STEM discuss their experiences and serve as peer tutors; participate in schools in the area for science night and also produce the podcast FWoS. Through their efforts, they hope to encourage girls to pursue STEM and provide them with the tools and support to succeed.
Bostin Christopher is the host of the chat. Juneau Afternoon broadcasts every day at 3:00 p.m. in the morning on KTOO as well as KAUK as well as rebroadcasts scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Listen online or subscribe to the podcast at ktoo.org/juneauafternoon.
