Two children required medical attention this week after a person spraying bear spray onto an inflatable slide in the Juneau’s Twin Lakes Park.
George Schaaf, the director of parks and recreation for the city The first report was received the afternoon of Tuesday.
It’s a style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”Their child came across something that was causing irritation in a slide in the playground,” he explained. “When we took a group out to inspect it, it was evident that it was a bear spray. .”
The team found a bottle of bear spray close by. The playground was closed and began to clean.
“They tried every thing we can think of, including Dawn dish soap, Scrubbing and pressure washing and we thought they got it quite well and fairly neat,” Schaaf said.
The park reopened on a Thursday. However, another incident of a child being injured was received later in the day, and so the city decided to close the two slides for a period of time.
Schaaf suggested that they may require replacing.
The span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”We have tried three times in order to wash the slides and I’m thinking that the best thing to do now is to allow them to air out for a bit, and then check if the vapor will dissipate in this way,” he said. “But should we be unable to make it suitable for people to use then we’ll have to replace them. .”
The park does not have cameras. Schaaf explained that Juneau residents debated whether it was possible to put them in place after the park was rebuilt following the fire that destroyed it in the year 2017.
It’s a span style=”font-weight 400 ;”>”Because of how the playground is laid out it would need a huge number of cameras to cover all areas, particularly the one that slides are located,” Schaaf said. “It’s in a tower and there’s plenty of little nooks and crannies within the tower. It’s unrealistic to install cameras inside a structure like this.”
It is requesting anyone with information regarding the incident to call the Juneau Police Department.
