“Our communities face their own criminal elements,” added District Attorney Walt Merrell. “From an attorney’s perspective it is not acceptable for criminals and their dangerous behavior to be able to transfer into Covington County with no consequences. Criminals must know that if they can escape punishment in their hometowns but that shouldn’t be an excuse in this case — regardless of whether they’re from the state of a neighboring county or any other. I’m happy that our local police officers were able identify people who were not in the town, investigate on the case, and then bring it all together in order to make sure that prosecutions are successful.”
