Six county football squads will be playing this week. Two teams are starting their regional schedules.
Andalusia vs. Dale County
Andalusia (2-0 and 0-0 in 4A region 2) will be looking to maintain an excellent starting to season. The team will open regional match with Dale County (1-1, 0-0) on the senior night.
The ceremony was originally planned to be held in the week preceding it, but was moved back due to the weather.
This is the eighth meeting between both teams and the fourth time they have met as regional rivals. The Bulldogs have a lead of 5-2 in the series over Warriors on the road in this series that was first introduced in the season of 1980.
Andalusia scored a 39-0 home shutout over Anniston the previous week. Dale County fell to Carroll-Ozark in a home match that was high-scoring with a score of with a score of 62-30.
The Bulldogs beat on the Warriors at home last season with a score of 43-0.
Florala vs. Georgiana
Florala (1-0, 1A Region 2 – 1-0) will try to secure its second straight win in the region and kick off the home stretch of three games against Georgiana (1-1, 1-1)).
The game this year is the 43rd match of the pair that date back to 1930. The Panthers have a advantage in the series against the Wildcats.
Both teams opened their regional slate with dominant victories the last time they met. Florala defeated Red Level in a road game 48-13. Georgiana routed McKenzie at home, 54-14.
The Panthers ended a three-game losing streak in the series. They defeated the Wildcats 20-14 in 2022.
Opp at Northside Methodist
Opp (0-2 0, 0-1 3A Regional 2) will try to be in the win column for the very first time this season by playing the region match against Northside Methodist (1-1, 1-0-0) on Thursday night.
This will be the second time these two sides since the previous season. The Bobcats have an advantage of 1-0 in the series in the series over Knights.
Each team lost in a home game the week before. Opp lost to New Brockton 19-14. Northside Methodist lost to Cottonwood 52-38.
The Bobcats beat the Knights in the last season, by a score of 40-10.
Pleasant Home vs. Red Level
Pleasant Home (1-0, 0-0 1A Region 2) will be back on the field following an open week. The team will hosts the county opposition Red Level (0-1, 0-1) in the first region match of the season.
The game this year is the sixteenth time game between these two sides dating back to 2000. The Tigers have a 9-6 advantage in the series and have won three consecutive wins against the Eagles.
As Pleasant Home was off last week, Red Level began its season with a gruelling home loss against Florala 48-13.
The Tigers played their home game by winning 26-6 against The Eagles on 2022.
Straughn at Daleville
Straughn (1-0, 3A Region 2, 1-0) has a trip planned for second consecutive week to try and secure a region victory in Daleville (0-2 1-1, 1-1).).
The match this year is the 11th time that the two teams have met since they first met in 1976 season. The Warriors have a 6-4 lead in the series however, they saw their winning streak of four games against the Tigers was ended last season.
Straughn won its first ever road victory against Pike County last week, 20-19. Daleville faced a tough Houston Academy squad at home and was defeated 55-16.
The Tigers had a 45-12 home defeat of the Warriors in the previous season.
