In a county rivalry match that was not scoring in the final half in the second half, It was actually that the Red Level Tigers that came out on top, delivering with a shutout of their rivals the Pleasant Home Eagles, 25-0.
In a game that became turbulent at times, and had several players suspended from both teams The Tiger defense drew back their Eagles attacking runners to just a few yards. While the Red Level’s run game appeared to improve as the game went on.
Red Level Head Coach Kenny Skipper was pleased with the performance of his team however he was a bit disappointed with the playing conditions at times.
“We performed a lot better in front than we have been. We were able to put the ball into to the fingers of our players. Javon (Poindexter) enjoyed an excellent night. Micah (Wright) played the ball with a lot of energy all night. Kolton (Barlow) performed more well this time around. I am proud of the way our kids performed, particularly in this type of situation. It’s a joke that the authorities let all this continue for so long.” Skipper said.
The Tigers were presented with a gift at the beginning of the game. After restraining a punt after three occasions three times, they were rewarded with a gift. Red Level punt hit a player, and then traveled backwards before landing where it was dropped in the six-yard area. Three minutes later, Justin Parker pushed the ball into the end zone. Ben Carroll’s added point gave Red Level a 7-0 with 8:14 left in the opening.
Pleasant Home would have its most efficient play of the game on the next possession, getting all up all the way to Red Level the 11 yard line but penalties put them behind and they eventually switched the ball over during downs.
The final score wouldn’t be scored until the start of the second quarter. Red Level took possession on the kickoff that was taken in the first half and Barlow returned the ball to midfield. A 17-yard run from Wright with the addition of a facemask penalty and set up the Tigers on the fifteen. Then, Barlow found Justin Parker free, who took the ball towards in the final zone. The point-after wasn’t much use which made the score 13-0.
The second score was scored in the fourth period of the drive that a number of players from the respective teams failed to complete due to ejections. Wright was the mainstay during the drive, and had one run that lasted 21 yards. The drive came to an end with Barlow once more finding Parker and scoring 15 yards. Two-point conversion attempts did not work, making the score 19-0 at 8:21.
Pleasant Home’s next drive was ended by a fumble. A personal foul during the play put the ball into a great location to Pleasant Home’s Tigers on the line of 27 yards. On the fourth down, Barlow continued to go to Parker who racked up 21 yards before leaving on the second. Barlow completed the drive with an keeper, which led to for the score to be 25-0.
Red Level (1-1, 1-1) will play host to Houston County (0-3, 0-2) Friday, September. 15, and Pleasant Home (1-1, 0-1) hosts McKenzie (1-2 2 – 0-2) the following night.
