A military plane intercepted a small plane of a civilian over Anchorage Monday, following the fact that it flew into airspace that was restricted during the visit of Vice President Joe Biden.
The F-16 fighter jet sounded flares to draw the pilot’s attention before noon According the report of the North American Aerospace Defense Command. Then, Biden spoke at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to mark the 22nd anniversary since the attacks on 9/11 after returning from a visit to Asia.
The Anchorage Daily News published an article Anchorage locals described the tiny civilian plane as an Piper PA-18 Super Cub that seemed to have tires that looked like tundra. NORAD confirmed that the plane was taken to an airport nearby.
An NORAD spokesperson Canadian Army Capt. Alexandra Hejduk, said Tuesday morning that two jets plowed into the aircraft. Both were stationed on Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks however, they was flying above Anchorage on Monday, to restrict flights temporarily for Biden’s tour.
Hejduk explained that pilots are accountable for distributing notices to airmen and airmen, also known as Notifications of Amendments which inform airmen of limitations, such as those that were on Monday. However, Bush pilots sometimes fail to read them.
The intercept of Monday was described as an opportunity for pilots who need to “remember and understand their NOTAMs, and forward it to their coworkers and friends particularly if they’re in the Bush fishing or hunting.”
There were no additional details available on Tuesday morning regarding the plane or pilot.
Hejduk put off questions about the aircraft that was intercepted to Federal Aviation Administration. FAA officials passed on queries to U.S. Secret Service, who didn’t respond immediately to a request on Tuesday for comment.
