The Straughn Football Lettermen’s Club is in search of ex-players, coaches and cheerleaders to join an exclusive celebration of the Tigers 50th season the present day.
The event will take place on the Friday of October. 6 as Straughn plays Houston Academy in a 3A Region 2 match. The halftime celebration and the pregame are scheduled.
The pregame party will be an outdoor tailgate party in the stadium, where a large tent will be set up behind the south-facing zone to serve as a place for food and socializing. Tables and chairs will also be available. In addition, the players, cheerleaders, as well as personnel who were part of 1974’s team are honored in the stadium prior to kickoff which will include the commemorative coin. In the halftime break players, coaches and cheerleaders from every decade will be honored, and a brief overview of the game will be announced via through the system of public addresses.
The gates for the game on October. 6 will be open for all the general public at 5:30 p.m. The players, cheerleaders and personnel who were part of 1974’s team will have access to the stadium for free and the tailgate tent starting at 5 p.m. The members of the 1974 team need to access the stadium through Robin Road. Robin Road entrance and provide the name of the team. One pass for free will be given to members who were part of the squad in 1974 to attend the game and tailgate.
For all ex-players, coaches, and cheerleaders, the purchase of tickets to games is required for entry into the stadium. The rest of the fans are admitted for free to the tailgate party.
“We hope that every former cheerleader, player and coaches are able to join us for this event. A space will be available at the tailgate party for memories from your experiences as an Straughn football player, coach or cheerleader. Bring items to share, such as scrapbooks, newspaper articles and yearbooks, uniforms and much more,” a Lettermen’s Club release stated.
Straughn’s head football coach Ashley Kilcrease will join the group for a short time in warm-ups around 5:35 p.m.
The pre-game on the field begins with a start time of 6:15 p.m. A select quantity of ex-players will be allowed to attend the team’s assembly at 6:40 p.m. at the Field House prior to Straughn playing on the field. Participation will be based on first come first served at the meeting.
“The Straughn Football Lettermen’s Club is sincerely hoping that the former players and cheerleaders are able to join us at this special event to reconnect with old friends as well as to revisit memories and check out the present situation in the organization. We are very excited about this event and would love to be there with you,” the release continued.
The Straughn Football Lettermen’s Club can also be accepted. They can be placed on the spot at the tent. Coins of a limited quantity can be purchased at a cost of $25 each.
