Five county teams will take to the field for regional action in the second half of the regular season in 2023 will begin this week.
Andalusia at Geneva
Andalusia (6-0, 3-1 4A 2 Region) will attempt to win its seventh straight win of the road for Geneva (2-4, 2 and 1).).
This year’s game is the 25th match-up in history between the two teams dating back to 1932. The Bulldogs are leading the series against the Panthers 18-6.
Both teams enter the game with non-region wins this week. Andalusia defeated Bibb County at home, 27-10, whereas Geneva defeated Geneva County in the middle of nowhere with a score of 49-8.
The Bulldogs were ablaze on offense in the game at home last year and defeated the Panthers in a at 69-19.
Florala vs. Houston County
Florala (4-1 2A, 1-1 1A 2 Region) will try to keep its great beginning to the season by taking on Houston County (2-4, 1-3).
The game this year will be the 10th game between these two sides since. The Lions hold a lead of 5-4 on the road, however the Wildcats have won two of their last three games.
Florala is entering the crucial region game off of a gruelling 20-8 win in the non-region at Samson this past week. Houston County squeaked out a 14-8 win at home in the match against Graceville, Florida.
The Wildcats have made their long journey worth it in 2022 when they dealt the Lions an 0-2 shutout.
Pleasant Home vs. Kinston
Pleasant Home (1-4, 0-3 1A Region 2) will face Kinston (1-4 Kinston, 0-3) Both teams will be hoping to break four-game losing streaks with an evening game on Thursday.
This is the 24th meeting between the two teams that have played each other each game since. The Bulldogs have a slight advantage of 12-11 against the Eagles.
Both teams will try to bounce back from a series of tough non-regional defeats at home just the previous week. Pleasant Home fell to Zion Chapel 39-6. Kinston was at the wrong side of a 41-7 loss to Goshen.
The Bulldogs played host to the game last year and did not have any problems with the Eagles in a home 47-13 victory.
Red Level vs. Elba
Red Level (1-4, 1-3 1A Region 2) will be facing a difficult test this week. They will play unbeaten Elba (5-0, 3-3-0).
The two teams will play each one for the eighth time in the field. EHS is the leader in the all-time series between RLS by 6-1. Tigers in the battle against RLS 6-1.
Red Level struggled last time out at home, and fell in a non-regional match in Bullock County, 46-12. Elba made the trip to Dothan and defeated Providence Christian with ease, winning 57-20.
EHS defeated RLS 42-6 at home, in the 2022 game in 2022.
Straughn Vs. Houston Academy
Straughn (4-1 3A, 3-0 Zone 2) will try to clear the toughest test of its existence this season by playing an away game against undefeated Houston Academy (5-0, 3-0).
The game this year is the sixth game between both teams since the season of 2016. The Tigers are leading 3-2 against the Raiders.
Straughn is looking to get back into the winning column following a loss to a non-regional team of 34-21 at Ariton last week. Houston Academy had a 49-0 home win over Abbeville the previous week.
The Raiders were able to hold on for a win of 33-27 against the Tigers in the previous season at Dothan.
Opp (2-4) has an off week.
