Alaska Congresswoman Mary Peltola says she’s ready to go back to Washington. Peltola has been in Alaska since finding out the news that her husband Eugene “Buzzy” Peltola died on September. 12 in the aftermath of the crash of a plane.

“The last few weeks have been the most difficult times of my personal life,”” Rep. Peltola stated in a statement that her office released. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity Alaskans have provided me with to commemorate Buzzy’s life with my family and to all who came to celebrate alongside us.”

She’ll keep mourning in her statement “but I’m ready to go to work because I know what she would like.”

She’s expected to be back next week in the House of Representatives in the process of changing. While she was away her Democratic colleagues and a small group from Republicans conservatives voted in favor of remove Kevin McCarthy as House speaker. The Minority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries proposesa multi-party coalition.

This is a familiar area for Peltola. She’s a moderate and belongs to various centrist groups in the House which include the Problem Solvers Caucus as well as the Blue Dog Coalition.

Bipartisan majority is commonplace for Congress. Alaska Legislature, where Peltola was a member for 10 years however, it is not a common sight in Congress.

“I’m willing to engage with Democrats as well as Republicans to come to a common understanding on actual issues that impact all districts, such as the rising cost of energy and the border crisis and also securing Social Security for the future,” her statement reads.
