LBW Community College and the U.S. Forest Service have joined forces to raise awareness and understanding of careers in the natural resource sector.

Through an agreement to share costs for challenges Through a challenge cost share agreement College has held job fairs and other exploratory activities for high school students in the area as well as institutes for job-seekers. Students are still able to benefit from the most current Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) course, in-depth career tours and mentoring by Forest Service personnel.

“This collaboration is not just intended to aid our current students but also increase awareness of the field and jobs available,” said LBW President Dr. Brock Kelley.

The agreement aims to assist students from underserved and diverse communities on a regional scale. The agreement encourages opportunities for employment for forest service employees. Forest Service operations.

“Forestry has such a profound impact on our society and we feel it is our responsibility to aid in boosting the number of people who can enter the field of natural resources,” Kelley said President. Kelley said.

Forest Service Grant Specialist Kara Foreman is scheduled to present an introduction to LBW Forestry Program to advanced students during an occasion held in North Carolina. The event will be held at the Oconaluftee Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Cherokee, N.C. where 33 students will take part in an introductory FIA implementation.

“I hope to share opportunities that for students in the LBW Forestry and Wildlife Sciences program can offer prospective pupils,” Foreman said. “This collaboration has helped to expose our children an industry that is public in Forestry as well as bringing about an extensive range of employment opportunities.”

In addition to fairs for career opportunities and informational events, both sides work together in order to identify new ways to eliminate obstacles, raise awareness about this Natural Resource career field, and open up more opportunities for Foresters.

It is the Forestry and Wildlife Sciences program which is the only degree with a two-year duration that is available in Alabama is designed to prepare students to become a forest technician. The curriculum focuses on the cultivation of field-based skills. Students are often able to take part in forest field activities like controlling burning, description of the stand and running land lines and the creation for forest plans.
