The entire six Covington County soccer teams are playing this week with just one team playing at home, while the other teams are on the road to play in regional matches.
Andalusia at Slocomb
Andalusia (7-0 and 4-0 in Region 2 of 4A) has a chance to play for a second week in a row and will play Slocomb (1-5 0, 0-4) in the inaugural time in a regional match-up.
The Bulldogs have a 1-0 advantage over against the Red Tops 1-0 after the two teams first played one on the field last year.
Andalusia enjoyed a great start on offense this week and easily swept over Geneva at home, winning 40-13. Slocomb did not have home support and was a victim in a shootout that was offensive with Dale County, 60-30.
The Bulldogs played host to the match in 2022 with the Red Tops, and beat their opponents, the Red Tops, 49-0.
Florala at McKenzie
Florala (5-1 3-1 1A 2 Region) is looking to secure its fifth consecutive victory in a crucial regional game against McKenzie (4-2, 2-3).
They will face off for the 29th time in total since 1941. The Wildcats have an advantage of 14-13-1 in the series over Tigers in the game.
Florala overcome a deficit of two touchdowns last week to secure the home region win against Houston County, 24-14. McKenzie went on the road to play a non-regional game at J.U. Blacksher and clinched the win 38-16.
The Wildcats produced big scores at home in the season-long contest, and beat the Tigers 72-38.
Opp vs. Daleville
Opp (2-4 Opp, 2-2 3A 2 Region) will be the sole county team that will host this week’s regional game against Daleville (2-5 1-1).
The matchup this year is the 26th match all-time since the teams first met during 1983. The Bobcats have a lead of 13-12 over the Warhawks with three straight wins throughout the game.
Opp got a bye last week before falling to Rehobeth just two months ago in the home arena 39-20. Daleville was unable to overcome the deficit on the road in Ashford 50-44.
The Bobcats scored a 33-7 road victory against the Warhawks in 2022.
Pleasant Home located in Houston County
Pleasant Home (1-5, 0-4 1A Region 2) will embark on long road trip as well as play Houston County (2-5, 1-4) in a regional contest.
Both teams initially faced one another in football in 2002. The Lions have a lead of 4-1 in the series following a loss in the opening contest to Eagles 21 years ago.
Pleasant Home dropped a Thursday night game last week against McKenzie at home 52-7. Houston County held a 14-point advantage over Florala but eventually lost, 24-14.
The Lions had a win of 42-21 against the Eagles at home last year.
Red Level at Kinston
Red Level (1-5, 1-4 1A Region 2) will try to get back into the win-score at Kinston (2-4 3-3) in a regional game this week.
The Tigers have a 13-11 advantage in the series overall from the very first match between the two teams in 1981 however, the Bulldogs have swept the four matches they have played in.
Red Level fell to the currently top seeded region of Elba last week, a score of 56-14. Kinston was dominant in the second half and defeated Pleasant Home on the road 52-7.
The Tigers lost 35-0 in a home defeat to the Bulldogs in 2022.
Straughn, at New Brockton
Straughn (5-1, 4-1 3A 2 Region) will be making its last road journey during the regular season. They will play New Brockton (1-5 1, 4-4) in regional play.
The two teams faced the other in 2017 for the first time in over 23 years. This year they’ll be fighting in the seventeenth meeting in a row since 1974, with the Tigers with a lead of 9-7 against the Gamecocks.
Straughn had a massive win last week in the home, defeating unbeaten Houston Academy, 35-21. New Brockton was at Pike County and fell by the same score of 35-21.
The Tigers defeated the Gamecocks during the 2022 game at home 56-7.
