Every year, about 75,000 wheelchairs are dumped across the United States, while 20 millions of people across the globe are in desperate need of wheelchairs.

You can help by donating mobility to people with disabilities in poorer countries. Wheels for the World, an initiative from Joni and Friends, provides the use of a wheelchair for free together with Gospel that is Jesus Christ to people with disabilities, including children and adults. disabilities.

The First Baptist Church of Andalusia will be hosting a wheelchair drive in support of Wheels for the World throughout the month of October. The church will be collecting manual as well as adult and pediatric wheelchairs as well as footrests for wheelchairs.

We would like to encourage anyone who has an old or damaged wheelchair that you consider giving your money Wheels for the World and help a disabled person who is in the need for mobility” the local director Brenda Mooney explained.

Thanks to donations of wheelchairs as well as financial donations 10754 wheelchairs and Bibles were handed out via Joni and Friends and Wheels for the World outreaches by 2022. Each wheelchair that was fitted demonstrated the tangible love of Jesus to those who struggle with disabilities.

“While we are insured in America but the people in different parts of the globe aren’t as fortunate. The fact that we are able to visit them and cheer them up can make a difference and bring happiness to the faces of those who attend. Everyone who participates,” Mooney added.

All wheelchairs that are collected are taken for transport to Wheels for the World Restoration Centers located in prisons where prisoners are able to restore the wheelchairs in a like-new condition. The wheelchairs are then transported to countries with less resources all over the world. Teams comprised of volunteer wheelchair mechanics and physical therapists will then match each wheelchair to an individual, and also provide instruction for the wheelchair’s care.

Team members also greet every person with each person with a Bible as well as the Gospel message. The opportunity to move along with the possibility of salvation transform their lives and the lives of people and their families for the better.
