Oxford, Alabama – The evening of October 24 The Oxford Arts Council is scheduled to stage a spectacular performance on the Oxford Performing Arts Center, one that promises to take audiences back to a world that was once that has been turned upside down. “An evening featuring Dolores Hydock & Bobby Horton” will present a thrilling performance that delve into the history and the times of Sallie Independence Foster, a girl who began keeping a journal during The Civil War and continued to keep a diary for the next 26 years.

Sallie Independence Foster only 12 years old at the time that the War Between the States began in Florence, Alabama, in 1861. The diary of her became her primary friend and an “dear friend” who was able to share her thought, hopes and memories during a turbulent time in American history. The diaries, as well as the personal papers of hers and correspondence from brothers in war, have been transferred in the Archives of the University of North Alabama thanks because of the kindness and generosity shown by Sallie’s great-grandson as well as great-granddaughter.

The concert, hosted through the Oxford Arts Council with support by The Oxford City Council and the Oxford Performing Arts Center, includes two extremely talented performers who will bring Sallie’s tale through a manner that is simultaneously humorous and heart-warming.
