With Israeli hostages held captive with the deaths toll from Gaza growing The Alaskan Congress delegation is in Israel’s side.
Congresswoman Mary Peltola voted this week in favor of a House resolution that condemned the Hamas attack, and defending the right of Israel to protect itself. The resolution was passed with a majority with only few Democrats as well as one Republican abstaining.
It is worth noting that the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the same resolution. Senator. Dan Sullivan has been particularly outspoken. Senators Sullivan and others visited Tel Aviv Sunday and held the press conference.
“This is an extremely sobering day. I’ve met relatives of hostages, and watching videos I think that the entire world needs to look at of the just extreme brutality and cruelty and the wickedness,” he said.
He was referring to the October. 7. Hamas attack that caused the deaths of more than 1400 persons in Israel mostly civilians. Israel has increased its assault on Gaza and has killed thousands of people in its efforts to eliminate Hamas. Sullivan states that the distinction is that Hamas had a plan to murder civilians.
“There’s no moral equivalent,” he said. “Every civilian’s death in war is a tragedy. What we’re seeing and what we witnessed in relation to Hamas was an effort to make the number of civilian deaths as brutal and bloody as it is. It’s not the way Israel does.
The Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health says more than 7700 people have died in Gaza however, the U.S. says it can’t confirm the number. More than 120 nations have voted on Friday to adopt the United Nations resolution seeking a cease-fire for humanitarian reasons. A majority of countries voted against it. United States, Israel and another dozen countries did not vote.
