The six teams of cross country that comprise the county the first step towards winning the state title starts with the sectional meet to be held on Thursday, November. 2.

Four of the top girls’ and boys’ teams from the respective sections of each class along with the highest six people not listed on the section team rosters for the four teams that qualify will qualify for the state championships on the Saturday of November. 11.

The teams in 1A-2A section 1, Florala, Pleasant Home as well as Red Level will compete in a 12-team field on Thursday in the Covington County Schools Track Facility. A girls’ 5-K is scheduled to start with a start time of 2 p.m. Then, there will be a boys’ 5K starting at 2:30 p.m. There are other teams participating in 1A-2A include Francis Marion, Goshen, Horseshoe Bend, Kinston, St. Luke’s, University Charter, Wicksburg as well as Zion Chapel.

The teams from the 3A section 1, Opp and Straughn will be competing in a 10-team field on Thursday in the CCS Track Facility. A girls’ 5-kilometer race is scheduled to start with a start time of 3 p.m. and will be followed by the 5K race for males around 3:00 p.m. The other teams participating in 3A will include Ashford, Bayshore Christian, Cottage Hill, Flomaton, Mobile Christian, New Brockton as well as Northside Methodist.

In Section 1 of 4A, Andalusia will compete in a 12-team field at the Montgomery-Gateway Park. A girls’ race race will start around 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by the boys’ 5K starting at 9:00 a.m. The other teams participating in 4A will include Booker T. Washington Magnet, Elmore County, Geneva, Houston Academy, Jackson, LAMP, Orange Beach, Providence Christian, Satsuma, St. Michael, and T.R. Miller.

The cost of admission is $5 per meeting.
