Juneau Assembly Juneau Assembly will discuss flood mitigation along the Mendenhall River at a meeting of the committee of the entire on the 6th of November, Monday.

The month of August saw a massive glacial outburst flood caused massive erosion of sections of the riverbank, ruining two homes and causing damage to many more. It was the most destructive outburst flood that has ever occurred in Juneau’s history. Scientists predict that future floods could be more severe.


Many residents have set to work in rebuilding the land and securing the riverbank by themselves. But, the city might be able to assist stabilize the banks.

The committee will offer a variety of federal funding options that can aid in the financing of additional bank stabilization works to safeguard houses along the river from further flooding.


Residents are invited to attend to discuss questions or provide public testimony.


The meeting will begin on Monday at 6pm directly in the City Hall. City Hall and remotely via Zoom.
