Anniston, AL –As November draws near the month of November, a thrilling and unique event is scheduled to be held at Anniston, Alabama, where various trail users groups get together to share their passion for the outdoors. It’s the Second Annual Treadhoofalon Triathlon is sure to be a hit with spectators and participants on November 11 2023 beginning at 8:30 a.m. This year, the Camp McClellan horse Trails is the center of this exciting event that is a joint effort of the Back Country Horseman of America McClellan Chapter as well as the Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association, and the Anniston Runners Club.
The Treadhoofalon isn’t a typical triathlon. It’s a unique race that incorporates equestrian abilities mountain biking, equestrian skills, as well as trail running. Participants will take on an adventure that will include approximately four miles of riding horses with a follow-up eight-mile mountain biking section, and finally an eight-mile trail running segment. This event promises to be a challenging experience that tests the flexibility and endurance of each participant.
The 2019 Treadhoofalon will introduce individual awards, based on the popularity of the first event in 2022 and giving participants more to work to achieve. A team with the fastest speed, the slowest and the top three female and male runners and cyclists, and those with the highest percentage of gaited horses and non-gaited ones will be honored with a deserved award at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Lain along with Julie Hawk, the founders of the Treadhoofalon expressed their enthusiasm and dedication to building bridges among different trail users groups. They also are looking for improvements, by introducing individuals awards in the coming year. The event’s vision goes beyond competition, with a their goal of providing a reward to everyone who uses trails.
Participants can register as a team, with one competitor for each discipline, or as individuals who can then select teammates from within the registration system at www.treadhoofalon.com. The race begins with the horseback riding portion beginning at 8:30 a.m. Then, it will be followed by mountain biking, and trail running. The time of each segment will depend on how fast each teammate finishes their portion.
The Treadhoofalon does not only provide an outstanding athletic challenge, but also fosters camaraderie between diverse outdoor enthusiasts and athletes. Hayley Long Anniston Runners Club Treasurer who was a participant in the inaugural event declared it an “unique and enjoyable experience” working as in a group with athletes who are from different disciplines. She praised the well-organized event as well as the assistance by volunteers, and the cooperation between the different sports clubs.
Chad Jones, Chairman of the Back Country Horseman of America McClellan Chapter highlighted the great success of the event last year and emphasized the spirit of unity that grew among the participants from various trails. The spirit of support and cooperation that saw everyone cheering one another for each other, was a refreshing experience. He hopes to experience the same enthusiasm this year and for future, with a growing number of participants from the next generations that will benefit the outdoor activities.
Early early bird entry for Treadhoofalon is now open for $55 for each person or $120 for a team of three. The price includes a brunch after the race and medals for the finishers. Non-competing race participants are able to purchase a $10 dinner tickets at the Camp McClellan pavilion on day of the event. A limited amount of additional Treadhoofalon shirts will be available for purchase at the time of the competition. The event is free to spectators, and anyone in the community is invited to join in and cheer on the athletes.
Julie Moss, Director of the McClellan Development Authority, shared her enthusiasm for the second Year Treadhoofalon and the chance to witness different groups working together harmoniously. She highlighted the uniqueness this event and the uplifting friendship it creates. The trails of McClellan will provide the backdrop for this spectacular event, which is open to all, and promises a memorable time for both spectators and participants.

McClellan Development Authority McClellan Development Authority was authorized in 2010 as a private non-profit that is responsible for the economic development from the old Fort McClellan Army Base.
