Covington County will send 25 athletes to the AHSAA 2023 State Cross Country Championship Meet on Saturday, November. 11 in the Oakville Indian Mounds Park and Museum in Moulton.

A total of eight students who hail from Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level will compete in the Class 1A-2A. The total number of athletes is 17 of Opp along with Straughn will participate in Class 3A.

The girls and boys who are participating in the state championships are in the following order:

  • Florala – Christina Sanders
  • Opp– Slayton Griswold, Anna Holland, Caroline Meyerhoff, Gehrig Presley Crystal Rogers, Okianna Russell and Haley Vendetti
  • Pleasant Home – Jude Bradley, Jenna Kate Clark, Jackson Hawkins, Pressley Kelley and Vance Kelley
  • Red LevelBen Carroll and Luke Hogges Ben Carroll and Luke Hodges
  • StraughnStraughn Reagan Bartholomew, Kaitlyn Bybee, Jace Blocker, Elijah Cowdery, Brayden Frye, Ayden Kelley, Kayden Kelley, Brayden Pettie, Kodi Smith, and Cameron Wambles

Boys of Pleasant Home and Red Level will start around 8:50 a.m. Girl students who attend Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level will start at 9:50 a.m. Awards for the classes 1A and 2A will be given around 10:45 a.m.

The girls from Opp and Straughn start with 11:10 a.m. Girls of Opp as well as Straughn will begin around 12:10 p.m. The awards for class 3A will begin in the 12:50 p.m.

As per the AHSAA team are allowed to substitute 30 minutes before the start of the race.

Trophies will be presented to the top and runner-up teams from each classification. Medals awarded to the top 15 spots in each classification will also be distributed.
