Jim Ogle laughed Friday when asked about his first touchdown pass in high school.
The player is Omarion “Peanut” Adams, and it wasn’t an actual passing scenario.
“It it was the year I started my first college with the ball at the line of inches,” Ogle said. “Of course, being freshman, I decided to throw it and were able to score.”
It was a record-breaking 99 touchdown passes in the past of the long-time senior Troy commit. He teamed up with Damonte Sinclair for a 68 yard touchdown pass that took him to the milestone of No. 100 on the Jacksonville team’s record in their 35-7 demolition from Bayside Academy in Friday’s first-round playoff game at Golden Eagle Stadium.
Ogle was able to complete the pass on 13 out of 18 attempts, resulting in 2 touchdowns and 166 yards while the Golden Eagles (9-2) earned an opportunity to play in the second round at Bibb County on November. 17. Bibb County defeated Montgomery Academy 56-6 on Thursday.
Ogle is hoping to finish the fourth year as Jacksonville’s starting quarterback at the Super 7 at Bryant-Denny Stadium on December. 8 Also, he threw an interception of 10 yards to Ky’dric Fisher last Friday night as Jacksonville took an advantage of 28-7 at halftime.
Ogle acknowledged his teammates during the postgame huddle. He also paid an ode to the receivers who been able to catch Ogle’s touchdown passes.
“They’re going to be angry at me in the future,” he said. “Obviously Ky’dric, Ky’dric, and Monte are with me right today, as well as Imoree (Young). Jackson Bonner is also there. Jackson Bonner.
“My sophomore year I had Jaboby Zackery, who’s an older brother, Q Long who is coaching with our team, Drew Pridgen, Peanut, Brody Bean. There’s been so many people who have helped me, and I couldn’t be able to have accomplished it without them all.”
For the man who nabbed the number. 100 yards, Sinclair was able to cover nearly 50 yards following the catch. Ogle ran right, and he was able to find Sinclair who took off field and cut through to break a tackle, then sprinting to into the end zone at 1:8 in the first quarter. This was the first score of the game.
“I realized I had lots of green (turf),” Sinclair stated. “I realized I had a person I could beat and I thought I’m going to get into the end zone.
“But I cannot be more positive about Jim the man. Excellent guy, excellent leader, and player. He takes it on every day. It’s a joy to to take balls from him, day in and out.”
Ogle was Jacksonville’s mainstay throughout the present Class 4A South period of existence. Ogle hopes to guide his team of Golden Eagles past the second round for the first time since the AHSAA changed their alignment to move them from North to South following their race to the 2019 final of the Class 4A final.
With the win in the game against Bayside, Jacksonville has won at the very least one playoff game in seven times in a row.
Ogle along with the team received assistance from special teams and defense. The running forward Zae English returned an off-target kickoff 70 yards for the score, while Fisher returned an interception tipped by a ball to score a touchdown as Jacksonville scored 21 points over a time of 49 seconds, which was in the 1:27- 38.9 seconds in The second half.
Jacksonville’s defense also came through in a stop-goal stand on the 2 yard line after Bayside scored a third down and long as well as a fourth down, which allowed them to win the first offensive drive.
“It was a fantastic evening for our team,” Jacksonville coach Clint Smith stated. “It was a very special night for Jim personally and also a memorable evening for the team.
“We did a great job. The most important thing early was their driving down, and we stopping them at the goal line and gaining the ball, and moving forward and scoring. Then just before half time, we had an explosion of points.”
