Ben Courson, a long-time Opp resident, Opp, Alabama, announced his intention to run for election for Covington County Commission District 1. Covington County Commission for District 1 on Thursday, November. 9, 2009.

Ben is a graduate of 1992 from Opp High School and a 1996 graduate of Auburn University. Since then he has not just run a small cattle ranch, but has also employed by Alabama Farmers Cooperative in numerous roles. In the twenty plus years of employment with AFC the last 10 years, he was employed for 10 years in charge of his own Opp Farmer’s Co-op. He is now the member services representative for GreenPoint Ag.


“I believe that my decades of experience in the field of business and management will prove valuable for the residents from Covington County.” Courson said. “In In addition I am convinced that our current Commissioner, Kenneth Northey, has performed an admirable job in representing the district for a long time. I commit to build on the foundation that he set by making ethical and prudent choices that .”


Ben is a regular part of the Ino Baptist Church, a member of the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association, and a former President of the Covington Young Farmers of Covington County.


He’s married to Elizabeth (Lanier) Courson and is proud to be the father to three kids: Anna Kate, Caroline and Cale. The Courson family includes deceased Ronald Courson and Peggy Courson.
