Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students participated at their first Tennessee Youth Karate Games held in Crossville, Tennessee, on Saturday, November. 4.

Mark Rudd of the AIK said it was a fantastic turnout.

“Our young students were able to take part in four seminars taught with various master-level instructors. They then participated in a competition that was open to anyone who is interested in any type of martial arts,” Rudd said.

As tournament directors, they the tournament directors were Sensei Tony Williams, Sandra Strong of the Lebanon, Tennessee Dojo and Sensei David Gabbard as well as The Jeremiah Center in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

AIK’s Johnathan Rudd was named the grand champion at the event in the 12 and under age group. He was first at kata’s Brown Belt. He was third in weaponry, and first in Kumite (fighting) and was just in the middle of Kyu (below that of a black belt).

Lacey Rudd received first place in the yellow belt kata category in the category for 7 and 8 year olds.

Stetson Cook finished second in yellow belt katas at the age of 9 in the 10 year-old category.

Lawrence Sargent was second in the kata competition in the category of 6 and under and second in kumite, the beginner category for 6-year-olds.

Eli Rudd finished in third spot in the yellow belt katas in the category of 7 and 8 year olds.

Cord Cook placed fourth in Kata and third in kumite, in the age group of 4 and 5 years old.

Henley Sargent was fourth in Kumite in the 4 & five-year-old age group.

Dhilan Patel also participated in the event, but was not able to finish in the top 10.
