Jordan Smith did not know what he wanted to be in his life a few years ago. But he is able to answer that question as the new veterinarian at Andalusia Animal Clinic.

His family was raised near Geneva and attended Tuskegee’s College of Veterinary Medicine from 2019 until the time of his graduation this year.

“My partner, Paris Smith, and I recently relocated to Andalusia to start our careers. When I was in my first year studies at Troy University, I was uncertain of the career path I would like to pursue. I had the chance to work alongside the Dr. Robert Hawkins, a great acquaintance and colleague with the late Dr. Toby Atkinson. The first day I shadowed him, I watched Dr. Hawkins placed an intramedullary pin in the humerus of an German short-haired pointer. After seeing this procedure I realized that this was the field of study I wanted to pursue,” Smith said.

Dr. Toby stated that Dr. Jordan was appointed six months ago to provide additional assistance and hopes to establish his own clinic someday. He was previously an intern with the hospital for short time before he was officially hired.

“I’m willing to slow down for a moment. Jordan is a southern Alabama person who I believed could be very appropriate here. He’s very clever and has done great work for us thus far. He’s sharp, relaxed, and blends perfectly with the culture of our clinic and with our customers from the county and city. Jordan is always interested in owning a business. As a business owner I’m at a stage where I’m willing to slow down and search for a person to buy an apartment, which is win-win. Jordan has the charisma that is perfect for this region as well as our clinic.” Atkinson said.

Smith is grateful for having the chance to work on behalf of Andalusia Animal Clinic.

“I am grateful for taking the care of animals since it’s a way for me to assist people. I also like the variety that a day can bring, since every day is different. Pets are considered our family which is why we take this extra step to make certain they are well taken care of,” he said.

Dr. Toby thinks he’s an easy patient and is a great communicater.

“We are delighted to have him aboard after he was able to pass his tests. He is meticulous and thoughtful. He actually received an award due to his abilities. He has been very efficient in his surgeries and has been doing a great job for us. Through him completing more of our procedures this allows me have more time to interact with animals the community brings in, and also gives me the chance to determine the cause,” he said.

Jordan stated that he will make use of this opportunity to grow and learn the skills required to succeed.

“At Andalusia Animal Clinic, Dr. Toby and his staff have a wealth of experience, a stellar reputation, and a loyal clientele. I am grateful for the opportunity Dr. Toby and Mrs. Janet gave me the chance to work with them. anticipate developing as a new veterinarian. I am grateful to be a part of the community by caring for animals,” he said.
