Montgomery (AL) –Governor Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that she will award $2.65 Million to assist Alabamians who have been homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Funds from the federal Emergency Solutions Grants Program will be used to assist 12 government and non-profit organizations in providing shelter, legal, and health services to individuals and families that are facing losing their homes or who are homeless.

Governor Ivey stated, “Helping others is Alabama’s way” and that the desire of our people to help those in need is one of many reasons why Alabama is so special. “Unfortunately, homelessness remains a serious problem in our communities. It’s up to us, Alabamians, to make it a reality. These funds will be used to ensure that those in need have safe and warm holiday homes.

The grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The ADECA manages a variety of programs that support law enforcement, traffic safety, economic growth, energy conservation, water management, recreation development, and law enforcement.

“Emergency solutions grants are meant to help people with urgent and sometimes temporary needs,” aid ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “I am joining Governor Ivey in congratulating these local governments as well as other agencies that are helping families and individuals who are experiencing difficult times.”
