Washington D.C. –U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) who is a member on the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has released a statement outlining her vote for the Continuing Resolution (CR) aimed to preventing a shutdown of the government and to ensure the continuous operation of the federal service.

The two-tiered CR that was pushed by House Republicans is receiving Senator Britt’s approval and will run through December 19 to fund four appropriations bills and then through February 2, for eight more bills for appropriations. The resolution passed the House on the day before and is scheduled to be ratified by President Obama prior to the government’s funding deadline on the last next day, on the 17th of November.

In her remarks Senator Britt stressed the importance of avoiding a shut down during the Christmas season. She also affirmed her commitment to stop a Christmas Omnibus. The measure’s importance was highlighted by the fact that it plays a role in ensuring continuity of vital government services, and stressed that government employees such as border patrol agents, troops, ICE officers, and Capitol Police would continue to get paid.

In her speech, she reflected on her personal memories of growing up close to Fort Rucker in the Wiregrass Senator Britt highlighted the sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians along with their loved ones. She explained that the resolution was designed to reduce the burden on military personnel during the holiday season and ensure that their pay will be paid, and ensuring an assurance to celebrate the holiday season.

Senator Britt highlighted the significance to The Continuing Resolution in affording Congress the time needed to openly responsible, accountable, and effectively take on all 12 bills for appropriations. She encouraged her colleagues to faithfully carry out their obligations and finish the vital work for the benefit of the American citizens.
