December 2023 Non-Profit Spotlight

Calhoun County, AL Calhoun County, AL Within the heart of Alabama’s Calhoun County, the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Cheaha Region fights tirelessly for the rights and wellbeing of children who’ve suffered the horrific realities of neglect and abuse. Their aim is clear: to provide a constant voice of these children and provide them with committed volunteers who fight for their best interests when they go to the family courts.

CASA from CASA of the Cheaha region extends their reach into St. Clair, Talladega as well as Calhoun counties, forming the safety net of abusers or neglected children. trained volunteers, who are recruited and guided by a dedicated group of experts, work with lawyers, judges as well as social professionals to help that the children can navigate the complexity of the foster and child welfare care systems.

Through committing time, establishing connections, and actively participating within the daily lives of children CASA volunteers become the ears and eyes of the court. The responsibilities include ensuring that children have accessibility to services that are essential and accompanying children to the court and defending their rights and needs.

To become part of in this worthy cause participants have to commit a few hours every month for at least a year, communicate effectively through a comprehensive program, and be able to pass background checks. This creates a group of activists who live by the ideals of equality, justice, and unwavering support for those who are vulnerable.

If you’re not able to become volunteers, CASA provides alternative avenues to help their cause:

1. Opportunity for Non-Advocate Volunteers: Volunteers can help CASA by volunteering in a variety of non-advocate positions, ranging from administrative tasks to coordinating events.

2. Contributions to Financial Assistance: CASA encourages tax-deductible donations which allow CASA to help children who are in need. Donations can be given in a single installment and augmented by employer match donations, or in honor of loved loved ones.

3. Event sponsorship: CASA holds fundraising functions like “A Beautiful Claus to CASA.” People and companies can sponsor these events on different levels to aid the cause and receive various advantages.


Upcoming Event: A Noble Claus for CASA

On December 17 2023, on the 17th of December, 2023 at The Kress, CASA will hold a fun-filled fundraising event, “A Noble Claus for CASA.” The event promises Santa visits, fun activities as well as sweet treats, along with professional photography. Tickets are $10 for children 12 and under, and $5 for adults and kids over 13, and free tickets for foster children in care as well as their family members.
