Anniston, AL –The City of Anniston is asking residents to prepare for the possibility of frigid temperatures expected to engulf the region beginning Monday night. To prepare for the predicted cold there is a public warming station located at The Bridge in Anniston’s First United Methodist Church (1400 Noble St, Anniston, AL 36201) will be open each night at 5:00 p.m. and close in the mornings around 8:15 AM beginning on Monday 4 December 2023 (12/04/23) beginning on Monday, December 4, 2023 (12/04/23) and running until the 7th of December 2023 (12/07/23). It is crucial to know that on December 6 2023 (12/06/23) The shelter will be open until 6:00 in the evening.

For more information about heating stations, citizens are asked to call their nearby United Way through their 24/7 assistance line by dialing 1-2-1.

Volunteer groups and other organizations are required to help with the preparation of meals for dinners and breakfasts. If you’re who are interested in lending a hand are invited to join the The Bridge Warming Station group on Facebook or contact Kyle Bryan from the United Way of East Central Alabama at kbryan@uweca.org. Bryan will also be able to provide details about other volunteer needs and opportunities available at the station.

The Warming Station is activated when temperatures are predicted to drop to below 36°F and takes into account various severe weather conditions, like rain. The initiative is a cooperative effort spearheaded by the Anniston City Council’s Community Task Force on Homelessness which is led by the United Way of East Central Alabama. This initiative is a collaboration together with Anniston First United Methodist Church, Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County, MeMe’s Heart, and His Hands and Feet Ministries.
