The Opp and Covington County Chamber of Commerce is taking applications to the 2024 Covington County Program of Leadership.


Its fourth year of operation is set to start its fourth year in a row was created to encourage personal growth in leadership and developing supporters to Covington County. Its goal is to promote individual development in leadership while developing Ambassadors of Covington County. Applications are open until the end of January. The fee is $500.00 which is covered by employers except if the applicant are an independent.


Candidates for 2024 will meet February. 22-23 for the first of their meetings. The meetings will take place each month on Thursdays from the months of February to November, with July being the only exception which is reserved to work on a community project. The hours of the program are 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the time of end is subject to change during certain months. The 2024 class will be graduating in January 2025.


The nine-month course, run by the Opp Chamber of Commerce, includes workshops on local technological and historical arts, as well as county and local administration, and state government. The program concludes with a visit to Montgomery and public safety as well as health and human service as well as education and diversity as well as agriculture and forestry economic development. The aim of the program is to create leaders and build Ambassadors of Covington County.


To be eligible to participate in the program, applicants have to meet these requirements:


  • Must be an resident in Covington County or have been a volunteer for an Covington County-based business or group for at least 6 months.

  • You must be at minimum 21 years old.

  • Possess satisfactory evaluations from a current employer with support from said business/organization.

  • Participate in the initial orientation, the local focal point, leader and assessment of personality sessions. attend all monthly meetings.

  • Be on time in a prompt time to all sessions and stay until the end of.

  • Participate actively in every aspect of the leadership program.

  • Create thank-you notes for presenters.

  • Fill out the necessary application and submit the form promptly.
