Alabama’s High School Athletic Association’s Central Board met Monday and approved the reclassification of 2024-26, as well as the alignments of football and volleyball, cross-country as well as swimming and diving.

Three Covington County football teams were affected by the most recent region alignments. These are created at least every 2 years.

Andalusia will be making the leap into Class 5A after a transition from Class 4A. Andalusia will be moving to Class 5A. Bulldogs have been placed into a seven-team region 2 that includes Carroll-Ozark Charles Henderson, Eufaula, Greenville, Headland, and Montgomery Catholic.

The latest alignment of volleyball places Andalusia in the area 3 alongside Brewbaker Tech, Charles Henderson and Greenville.

For cross-country, Andalusia participates in 5A Section 1. They will be along with Booker T. Washington Magnet and Carroll-Ozark. Charles Henderson, Citronelle, Elberta, Eufaula, Faith Academy, Headland, LeFlore, Providence Christian, and Vigor.

Opp and Straughn will be making the leap in Class 3A, and then Class. Opp and Straughn will make the jump from Class 3A to Class 4A. Bobcats as well as the Tigers have been placed into the eight-team Region 2 that comprises Ashford, Dale County, Daleville, Geneva, New Brockton along with Pike County.

The most recent volleyball alignment for Opp and Straughn will see the only changes in the competition’s class and the fact that New Brockton as well as Pike County will remain Area 4 rivals.

In cross the country the two teams will be competing in Section 1. 4A Section 1. The teams will also be represented with ACCEL Academy, Ashford, Bayshore Christian, Geneva, Houston Academy, Jackson, New Brockton, Orange Beach, Satsuma, and St. Michael Catholic.

Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level were not affected by the most recent football alignments, and will continue to be in the Class 1A. There are three teams: the Wildcats, Eagles, and Tigers will remain in what’s now an eight-team Region 2 which contains Brantley, Elba, Georgiana, Kinston, and McKenzie. The region is identical to the last two years, with the only exception of Houston County who moved to Class 2A.

The most recent volleyball alignment puts Red Level in the area 2 alongside Brantley, Elba, and McKenzie. Florala and Pleasant Home will be located in the area 3 along with Emmanuel Christian of Dothan and Kinston.

In cross the country the three teams will be competing in Section 1A-2A. The teams will include Emmanuel Christian, Francis Marion, Goshen, Holy Spirit Catholic, Kinston, Pike Liberal Arts, Tuscaloosa Academy, University Charter, and Zion Chapel.

In the diving and swimming pool, Andalusia, Opp, and Straughn were grouped in the Section 1 of Class 1A-5A along with Bayside Academy, Cottage Hill, Elberta, Eufaula, Faith Academy, Houston Academy, Jackson, LAMP, LeFlore, Orange Beach, Satsuma, St. Luke’s Episcopal, St. Michael Catholic and T.R. Miller.

The Alabama State Department of Education offers average daily enrollment figures to the AHSAA that aids with each reclassification time. Students in the ninth through eleventh grade are considered. The most current school enrollment numbers are as below:

  • Andalusia 386.5 – 386.5
  • Straughn – 321.05
  • Opp – 297.45
  • Pleasant Home Pleasant Home 119.3
  • Florala – 113.95
  • Red Level – 106.5

These areas and regions will take effect in 2024 and 2025 seasons.
