The Eaglecrest Ski Area in Juneau finally was open for winter season on Wednesday, following receiving a needed 9-inch dumping of snow on the night prior.
The Ptarmigan Chair was the only lift that was operating on Wednesday. However, by Thursday, the Hooter Chair was operating as well. Eaglecrest director Dave Scanlan said they hope to be able to have an operational Porcupine Chair running by the weekend.

Scanlan said that the Eaglecrest Parking Lot on Wednesday morning was filled, and that a steady stream of people climbed the mountain throughout the day.
The season’s opener was delayed by intense rain and hot temperatures. Despite cooler temperatures that allow for snowmaking to increase, Scanlan said the snowpack on the mountain is extremely low. Scanlan advised skiers to exercise cautiously when climbing the slopes.

Eaglecrest will be open every day of the week, with the exception of holidays like Christmas or New Year’s Day holidays.
