Covington Electric Cooperative (CEC) recently granted teacher grants of $14,332.21 for 19 educators from schools managed by this cooperative. These grants will allow teachers to carry out special initiatives in their classrooms that would otherwise not be feasible.

CEC provides its Bright Ideas grant program each year to support teachers with educational initiatives that aren’t included in traditional funding. The program is open for teachers from K4-12 at schools that are electrically served by CEC. Teachers can apply for grants that range from $800.

“The CEC board of trustees is committed to providing education opportunities that benefit our members and their children.” stated CEC Chief Executive Officer and President Mark Parker. “The Bright Ideas program is one of the ways we can fulfill our commitment. In the year that was in effect, CEC received 19 grant requests and the cooperative was able to pay for every request. We’re extremely pleased with the level of interest we’ve received for this program from teachers in schools across the area we serve.”

The grant recipients were teachers from Pleasant Home School, Straughn High School, Straughn Elementary School, Samson Elementary School, Red Level School, Fleeta School and one that directly serves all schools within Covington County.

“These grants will help more than 2300 students who are grandchildren or children of CEC members,” Parker said.

Additional information about the grant programs will be available within the issue in February of Alabama Living magazine. CEC operates as an electric cooperative that provides around 24,300 meters across portions of six counties, which comprise: Covington, Coffee, Geneva, Dale, Crenshaw and Escambia.
