The Carver Community Center of Florala will host their Annual Black History Gala with guest speaker Neal Oates Jr. on Saturday, February. 10 at 5 p.m. at the Rodney J. Evans Center on Lake Jackson.
Neal Oates is the child of Patrica Oates and deceased Neal Oates. Neal was born in Florala and lives at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“Neal is a thriving businessman, motivational speaker, and is graduated from Troy State University. He is a frequent guest speaker across the country, speaking to audiences of all sizes and shapes. Neal inspires business owners to become leaders in their businesses, and he helps the clients how they can spot and overcome all obstacles and hurdles, overcome doubt, and discover the many avenues to the success they desire,” a press release stated.
The release also stated that Neal is on a mission to engage to his audience when his words are spoken.
“His purpose for every event is to reach the heart of his audience. He employs a mix of excitement, laughter and a common sense approach to conversations to ensure that his audience is empowered and capable of reaching different levels of achievement.”
The gala will feature entertainment, food, drinks and dancing. The theme of the gala is “after five glitter.” Tickets for adults are $30, and 10 dollars for school-aged kids.

Carver Community Center of Florala is an 501(c)(3) non-profit that serves the community in Florala and Lockhart and Flowersview located in Florida. One program provided by the center is called the ABC Club (Amazingly Beautiful Children’s Club).
“Each Sunday we involve students in school age children in amusing activities such as learning business through creating and selling cookie dough, creating paracord bracelets to sell while taking them on exciting and educational excursions and much more. The aim is to prepare children for navigating life with ease. The carver’s Young Men and Women of Destiny offers a dance class for an hour every Sunday, with Minister Frank Jones as the director,” Bryant said.
Every month, on the first Saturday of each month Carver provides assistance to the seniors with a free lunch. Additional activities for guests are scheduled during the week.
“This is an excellent and nutritious meal for no cost. We offer take-away, eat-in and delivery options for those who are at home. The number of people who participate has increased from around 100 to 18 individuals now. In the time we don’t offer the meals we serve, we provide other events like sewing classes every Wednesday and a fun Friday and line dancing for adults,” she added.
