A suspect is at large north of Juneau after a fight Wednesday night left one man with a “non-life-threatening” gunshot wound.

The Juneau Police Department is actively looking for a person they believe is close to Berner’s Bay’s cabin and is wounded by a gunshot to his hand. There are no other details about the suspect have been released to date.

According to an announcement in a press announcement, around 8:15 p.m. On Wednesday night, police received a phone call from a woman whose husband was fighting with a person who was in his home trespassing near the 35 miles Glacier Highway.

The moment police along with Capital City Fire/Rescue arrived, they discovered the 72-year old property owner with a minor head wound from a gunshot. The wound was reportedly from a handgun owned by the property owner and the victim was treated at the site.

The suspect in the incident fled the scene in a silver pickup truck that was smaller prior to the arrival of police. A vehicle that matched the description was later discovered by the police, as was an assault weapon used during the incident.

Police haven’t responded on a call for further information.

The release invites person with information to contact JPD dispatch, 907-586-0600, or make an anonymous tip via Juneau Crimeline.
