Oxford, AL –In an incident that occurred at around 11.35 a.m. the morning of Friday January. 12th, a multiple-vehicle collision along Airport Road near Oxford has resulted in the loss one of the young lives. The victim, who was identified as a 22-year-old Cristian Soto, who hails from Oxford suffered serious injuries during the crash.

The tragic chain of events started as the year 2017 Ford Fusion driven by Soto struck head-on with the 2004 Peterbilt tractor-trailer owned by the 63-year-old Douglas E. Smith from Dakota City, Neb. The force of the collision was extremely severe and caused further problems due to the fact that the Ford then struck an earlier Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 21-year-old Jordy M. Perez also from Oxford.

After the accident emergency personnel swiftly transferred Soto immediately to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical care. Despite their efforts to save the patient, Soto succumbed to his injuries, and died in the hospital.

The site of the crash was located on Airport Road, situated less than one mile to the west of Oxford in Calhoun County. AL Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division is currently investigating the crash however, no additional details are available at the moment.
