Weaver, AL – Weaver, Ranburne are in the semifinals in Class 1A-4A, and could play for the title on this Friday in Birmingham CrossPlex.
A huge month for Weaver wrestling has just gotten bigger.
At Weaver at Weaver, the Bearcats boys defeated Dora 45-28 as well as Corner 51-18 in the State Class 1A-4A duals making it to the semifinals of the state tournament. Weaver will play St. John Paul II.
Ranburne reached the semifinals at the top bracket after beating Oak Grove 42-39 and Cleburne County 39-33 at Oak Grove. The Bulldogs will take on St. James to make it into the semifinals.
The semifinals for both teams will take place on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The 1A-4A finals begin with 5:15 p.m.
Weaver has been able to win the last two state championships in Class 1A-4A using the standard format, and hopes to add the first state duals title. They have advanced to the semifinals of duals for the first time in their history.
Weaver put 10 girls into the traditional state tournament that takes place in Thompson High School on Wednesday and Thursday, with matches for placement Friday at Birmingham CrossPlex.
“I’m happy, and to be sincere,” Weaver coach Andy Fulmer stated. “Really satisfied with our team. Were a team of fierce determination and passion.
“Special group of children we have. They truly love each other and fight for the same prize.”
Weaver’s winners as individuals at both Dora as well as the Corner matches based on weight class included Cael Fulmer (108), Peyton Andrews (115), Haiden Hise (122), Dylan Brown (140), Gianluca Torres (146), Caden Thornton (159) and Christopher Thornton (167).
Other winners in the fight against Dora were Dalton Fink (128) and Dashawn Kirby Barnes (152).
Gabriel Snyder (134), Brandon Jolliff (217) and Zachary Rhodes (287) scored wins against Corner.
The winners of Ranburne’s initial round as well as the quarterfinals included Carter Driver (108), Johnny Mack English (128), Curtis Daniel (167), Zack Buchanan (177) and Zaden Benefield (287).
For the contest against Oak Grove, Ranburne also had wins against Isaac Calvert (217) and Cash Ward (152).
Hunter Hulsey (115), Jackson Ralston (122) and Braden Driver (140) beat Cleburne County.
Cleburne County’s top scorers in the quarterfinals match against Ranburne were Bronson Bell (134), Noah Morgan (146), Austen Mayfield (152), Colton Mayfield (159), Brayden Beam (192) and Will Johnson (217).
