Distinguished Young Women of Covington County 2024 winner Ivy Rogers will be participating in the Alabama state DYW competition on Friday, January. 19 and Saturday on Jan. 20.

Ivy has graduated from Andalusia High School and is the daughter of Scott and Tina Rogers. The girl left on Jan. 14 to attend the event, and will stay in a host house until the conclusion of the event.

The next Distinguished Young Women of Alabama state event will take place at the Frazer Church in Wesley Hall, in Montgomery. The preliminary rounds will be held on Friday at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. before the finals on Saturday evening.

Ivy is fourth among 43 contestants this year’s competition. She will perform an en pointe ballet/jazz to “Last dance” performed by Donna Summers on Friday. She will then complete the fitness and self-expression category on the Saturday afternoon, prior to the finals.

Tickets for both preliminaries cost $20 in advance and $25 at the at the door. Finals tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the at the door. The weekend ticket, valid for three performances can be purchased for $65 advance and $70 on the at the door.

Distinguished Young Women (formerly Junior Miss) is the longest-running and most prestigious scholarship program for teens in the high school. In the last year there was nearly $1 billion worth of college-funded scholarships and cash tuition were offered across the country. The present Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama, Carrington Hodge, has been awarded more than $45,000 in scholarships due to her work.

In the Distinguished Young Woman at the Covington County 2024 contest, Ivy received over $5,000 in cash prizes as well as the tuition scholarship of $3,000 of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College.
