The Covington County Emergency Management Agency is monitoring an expected storm system to pass across the region early on Thursday morning.

According to official reports the storm system is predicted to move off the southerly Plains into in the Mississippi Valley Thursday night into Friday morning. A series of severe storms could impact the forecast region ahead of the approaching cold front during this period.

The Covington County region is located in an area that is considered to be to be at “slight danger” for severe weather and the main concerns are damaging winds that exceed 60 miles/hour as well as some tornadoes. The possibility of hail that is quarter-sized is very likely.

The round of severe weather is still anticipated to reach the southeast Mississippi and into interior southwest Alabama throughout the night possibly approximately four a.m. at night on Thursday. The front will be moving east over the remainder of south central and southwest Alabama as well as the western Florida panhandle throughout the dawn hours on Friday. According to the latest reports, the most severe threat will move towards the east midday on Friday. The areas of threat and the timing may change.
