After seeing better scores in two schools this year it appears that the Andalusia City School System continues to move upwards, with better grades for two of their schools, while two others scored similar to what they did one year ago.

In the last report card, Andalusia Elementary and the system as a whole saw an improvement in their scores. Both schools moved from B-grades to A’s. Both were able to maintain last year’s scores, with AES getting a 90, and the central office registering an 91.

This year the two schools Andalusia Junior High School as well as Andausia High School both saw better scores. The junior high had an increase of a significant amount, going five points higher from of 79 in 2022, to 85 this year. AHS gained one point over last year’s score of 82 to an average of 83 this year.

Andalusia Director Dr. Daniel Shakespeare gave credit to everyone in the system striving to achieve the goals of the school system.

“I am delighted with the results of our report cards that show the commitment and perseverance of our teachers, students administrators, staff, as well as board members” Shakespeare said. “Their dedication to excellence in academics is admirable. These results are not just a showcase of the skills and knowledge acquired as well as the teamwork that is the hallmark of our community.

“Our students’ achievements are evidence of the successful classroom practices and a supportive atmosphere that we have within our educational institutions. We are grateful for these achievements and are proud of the progress made in providing an excellent education,” Shakespeare added.

While the school is celebrating its progress, Shakespeare said work will continue to improve the quality of education in Andalusia City Schools among the most effective in the state.

“As we continue to move forward we will remain focused on constant growth and improvement. We recognize the areas in which growth is possible and we’re committed to implementing specific strategies to keep elevating Andalusia City Schools to one of the best performing schools across the state,” Shakespeare said.

“We would like to thank all of our neighbors for their continued assistance and to congratulate our teachers and students for their amazing achievements.”
