Andalusia high school senior, Meleah Tradaway was named as a finalist for the 2023 competition to win the National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s prizes.
“A significant amount of effort, time and dedication has been put into my studies, and it’s satisfying to get this kind of recognition. In the end, I feel an immense sense of satisfaction. I’d like to offer an a huge amount of gratitude to the teachers I had at AHS. In the absence of them, I would not be where I am today,” Treadaway said.
The selection process for 7250 Merit Scholarship winners from the number of 15,000 finalist is in the process. NMSC will inform scholarship winners in March. In March, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition to earn recognition and awards, which began in 1955. About 1.5 million students from high schools enroll in the program every year. Treadaway was informed last September that she had been selected as an honorary semifinalist.
She is SGA president, Homecoming Court Senior Attendant as well as Project Director of the staff for yearbooks and Pit Section leader of the band. She is also a City of Andalusia ambassador as well as a Program Aide at the South Central Alabama Mental Health Center. She has been awarded numerous honors in the past such as girls State Rep, National Honor Society, DAR Good Citizenship Award, and National Merit Rural and Small Town Recognition.
Treadaway will be studying at The McCullough Institute for Medical Scholars which is a part of the University of Alabama Honors College. She hopes to become the child psychiatrist.
“There are many doors not yet been opened. I’m really anticipating the unknown in the near future, because I’m confident that I’ve got the ability to deal with whatever comes to me.”
The actress is the child of Angi Hicks as well as Marty Treadaway.
“We are extremely satisfied with Meleah. Her sacrifice, dedication and commitment to her studies has paid off and we wish her well on this honor,” AHS Principal Ray Wilson said.
The organization was founded in 1955. National Merit Scholarship Corporation is an independent, non-profit corporation that manages its National Merit Scholarship Program.
