The Alabama Department of Education announced tests that are administered across the state to determine proficiency levels in math, reading and science.

It was the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) assessed students in the second through eighth grade in Language Arts (ELA) and math, in addition to the fourth, sixth and eighth graders studying science.

In the Andalusia City School District was home to 55.3 per cent of its students who scored in the category of “proficient” on ELA 47 percent of them in math in addition to 48.8 on science. The concept of proficiency is an upper standard for students that are not at grade level. Students may be on grade level, but may not be “proficient” in the light of ACAP test results.

Second graders of the ACSS were able to score 89.66 at grade level or higher in the ACAP reading tests. Third graders scored 87.59 percent.

Opp City Schools’ ACAP results were 55.6 percent of proficiency for ELA, 40.70 in math and 43.10 in science.

In the ACAP reading tests, Opp second graders are at 83.87 percent reading above level, whereas third graders are rated at 87.50.

Students from Covington County School System. Covington County Schools System have achieved a total proficiency rate in the range of 54.40 on ELA, 34.23 in math and 43.30 in science.

The second graders of the county schools scored 89.67 or higher reading level, and their third-grade students scored 82.59 percent.

The individual school districts in the county ACAP reading results are as follows: Fleeta second grade – 70 percent; Fleeta third grade – 70.59; Pleasant Home second grade – 95; Pleasant Home third grade – 90.91 The Third grade – Red Level second grade 90. third grade – 90; Level third grade 83.33; Straughn Elementary second grade 2nd grade 94.12; Straughn Elementary third grade third grade – 85.56; W.S. Harlan Second grade in the Elementary 2nd grade 86.05 Then W.S. Harlan Third grade at Harlan Elementary Harlan Elementary third grade 76.19.
