The Andalusia City Council approved four new vehicles to be utilized in Police Department Andalusia Police Department. They also approved the Industrial Development Board appointment on Tuesday, December. 19.
The council heard a plan by chief Paul Hudson regarding the purchase of additional vehicles, equipment including cameras, for police.
“We have been buying four vehicles per year. Our head of staff suggested to purchase 16 cars simultaneously that would make up the majority the fleet. Within four years, we’d buy 16 additional. I think it’s a sensible idea and it has merit but it’s still over one million dollars. There are a few things that are in the pipeline at present however, we’re going require some money to pay for those that are coming up. I would suggest that we buy four in the current year, and then review our financial situation next year to determine whether we are able to purchase another 12 units,” the Mayor Earl Johnson stated.
Chief Hudson said a bid might be made either locally, or by the state.
“Andalusia Ford” was the sole bidder, and he offered $37 more than the bid of the state. Why not limit it to the local level?” he asked.
The council voted to approve the cost total of $215,000 to the capital account of the city for the four vehicles as well as the corresponding equipment.
The council has approved the renewal to Seth Hammett to the city’s Industrial Development Board.
“His term is up Seth has said the desire to serve as a member of the board. Everyone knows the name of who Seth is. He was a former Speaker in the House and I would like to suggest Seth Hammett for this appointment,” Johnson said.
