The Andalusia City Council on Tuesday completed a property swap deal with another property owner in the area.


The real estate that is recognized by the city lies along Coleman Avenue, a street which connects the bypass with Andalusia High School.


“You will see lots of work being done as the street is being widen as well as sidewalks and media that runs through the middle. The street will be greatly upgraded,” said Mayor Earl Johnson.


For the exchange Robert Bishop will receive from the city a site along Sixth Avenue.


As per the Mayor that both properties were appraised, with the Bishop’s first property appraised at a greater value than the property he’s being offered at Sixth Avenue.


The council initially approved an ordinance declaring it surplus to the Sixth Avenue property as surplus and allowed for the adoption of a resolution that confirmed the swap of property.


Another issue that was that was discussed by the council on the property was a building that was that was owned with the Industrial Development Board and city. The building, which is located within the industrial park of the city was lease by Triple H Specialty, which wanted to buy the property. The council agreed to sell the building for $300,000 after deducting the lease’s previous payments and brings the price to $262,000. The amount will be divided by the Industrial Development Board.


Other topics discussed during this meeting were:


  • Approving a bid submitted by Wiregrass Construction Company for asphalt and other materials used for street resurfacing.

  • Approving to spend $50,000 to construct an iron barn that will be built behind the former Alatex structure for the purpose of storage for Candyland Cottages.

  • approval the expenditure of $31,300 on painting inside City Hall.


The next city council is scheduled for on Dec. 19. 19 between 11 and 12 a.m. in the city hall’s upstairs conference room.
