Dr. Daniel Shakespeare, Superintendent of Andalusia City School provided updates to the school board regarding a current project as well as another one that is in progress.
Shakespeare informed the board that the current project for expanding the cafeteria could be completed before Jan. 5, according the contractor.
He said that the contractor had looked at AHS’ girls’ locker room to start that process. This could be a project that can begin after the cafeteria has been completed.
The contractor will also look at possible improvements to bathrooms in the boys’ locker rooms.
The board approved a three year agreement with Managed Methods for digital security that will protect staff computers from hackers. Linewire was also approved by the board to provide security for student-use 1:1 devices such as tablets and laptops.
The board also handles other matters:
- Three personnel matters were approved, including Hannah Cross’ resignation as a music teacher, the hiring of a cafeteria worker, and Annie Howell receiving a supplement to support her work on the school’s leadership team. Tyrone Ingram is an athletic strength and conditioning coach.
- Coaches who are associated with AHS football winning the state championship will be eligible for approved bonuses.
- Peer Helpers approved a field trip to Orange Beach.
- A discussion was held about adding a wrap around the home-side and visitors’ aluminum bleacher sections of the football stadium. To prevent people from getting underneath, the wrap would be enclosed around those bleachers.
- Sammy Glover, the delegate of the board to the Alabama Association of School Board assembly, provided a report. Glover was also acknowledged by the AASB as having completed the School Board Academy. He had met many requirements to receive that certification.
The board scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday January 17, 2006 at 6 p.m. in the central conference room. The public is welcome to attend.
