All six teams from the county are in action this week, with two teams trying to keep their unbeaten streak going and another becomes the first school in the country to celebrate homecoming this year.
Andalusia and Montgomery Academy. Montgomery Academy
Andalusia (4-0 and 2-0 in 4A Regional 2) is back home and will try the chance to maintain its undefeated campaign in good shape with a win against Montgomery Academy (2-2, 2-0) in a regional battle.
It will be only the second meeting between both teams after they clashed in the past for the first time. The Bulldogs are leading the series against the Eagles by 1-0.
Andalusia got its second shutout in the league last week in Bullock County, 50-0. Montgomery Academy held on for an upset against Dale County in a shootout at with a score of 57-42.
The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles 49-7 in the 2022 match.
Florala vs. Pleasant Home
Florala (2-1 1-1 Region 2, 1A) will host the county Rival Pleasant Home (1-2, 0-2) for their annual homecoming game and concludes the home stretch with three games in the region.
The school will host an event on Friday, September. 22nd beginning at 1.30 p.m. and will present the queen and the homecoming court before the game begins starting at 6:30 p.m.
This is the 24th consecutive season that the two teams have faced on the gridiron. The Eagles will travel to the Wildcats in their first game in 2018 and are leading 12-11 in the series. However, they are a long way behind the Wildcats are winning five consecutive games since losing to their cross-county rivals in the year 2017.
Florala was a bit out of regional play and doubled Southern Choctaw this time, winning 44-22. Pleasant Home fell to McKenzie at home 54-7.
The Wildcats played the Eagles and won the Eagles a win at 50-20 in their last game.
Opp vs. Pike County
Opp (1-3 3A, 1-2 3A Regional 2) returns home this week following two games in Dothan and will take the field against Pike County (2-1, 2-1) in a crucial regional game.
This year’s game is the 24th time in history for the teams, with the Bulldogs have an advantage of 14-8 in the series dating to 1924. The Bobcats have avenged a three-game losing streak last season.
Opp was defeated in a spirited defensive battle against Providence Christian last time, 10-6.
The Bobcats won 28-27 in a road victory against their Bulldogs during 2022. Pike County pitched a 47-0 home shutout of Northside Methodist.
Red Level at McKenzie
Red Level (1-2, 1-2 1A Region 2) travels only a short distance from McKenzie (2-2, 1-1) to play a second important regional game in the region.
The clash between the Tigers will be the 72nd time that this series has played that dates all the way back to 1928. The winner of the game this year will lead the series that is currently in a 35-35-1 draw.
Red Level comes into the game following losing at home against Houston County last week, 40-35. McKenzie took a trip for the game to Pleasant Home and collected a victory of 54-7 the last time.
Red Level squeaked past McKenzie at home in a thrilling game in the 2022 season 25-24.
Straughn at Ashford
Straughn (3-0 3A, 2-0 Region 2) hopes to secure its fourth consecutive victory and fourth straight unbeaten four-game run in the longest road trip of the season in Ashford (1-3, 3-3).
The Tigers are hoping to be undefeated with their Yellow Jackets and hold a 7-0 overall record over their regional foes since the season of 2010.
Straughn made the most of a strong second half to earn an unregional home win over Clarke County last week, 44-18. Ashford lost on the road to Houston Academy, 48-6.
The Tigers beat their opponents Yellow Jackets last year at home, winning 41-12.
