The members from Andalusia High School’s yearbook and broadcast staff were at Troy University’s annual J-Day celebration on Thursday October. 19 and brought home a variety of awards.

The festival has been going on for the past 20 years, and was attended by more than 500 students from the area. Students were from high schools within an hour’s drive from Troy. Troy campus.

“Our students are looking forward to the interactive learning opportunities offered on J-Day with modern technology and learning from professionals working in the industry within our community. This is a chance for students to think about their possibilities for their education and explore the possibilities for how a profession in the field of communication might be as,” said AHS Broadcasting the event’s sponsor Charlotte Walden.

The AHS broadcast team won first place in the video newscast and first place in the best videos, the first position for the most impressive feature coverage and second in best television station. The staff of the yearbook received honors like first place in the best theme, second overall second place for sport coverage and third place for the best photography category and third place in the top design category.

“The broadcast team produced outstanding content, keeping the school updated in awe throughout the entire year. The staff of the yearbook brought what was important about the school year 2022 with a lot of creativity and enthusiasm. They earned deserved praise for their efforts,” Walden said.

After the ceremony the students were divided in groups led by the Troy’s ambassadors for students. They got the chance to participate in the 50-minute sessions. Faculty members of the university as well as graduates and Presidents of both the Alabama Press Association and the Alabama Broadcasters Association led these sessions. The sessions covered a variety of topics, including the importance of journalism in our society as well as podcasting, design, interviews, and reporting on sports. Students could see what journalism is and discover what interests them the most.

“I believe it’s crucial for students to know the possibilities that are available,” said Troy University Hall School of Journalism Director Dr. Robbyn Taylor. “They could visit Troy and participate in sessions with recent graduates or faculty members who teach and realize what they can do if that’s something they’d like to pursue it is possible to get practical experience here.”

Walden said that Walden said that J-Day event is an opportunity for field trips that AHS students anticipate each year.

“They are delighted to announce that our school received numerous prizes for their hard work and commitment. We want to congratulate these students for their accomplishments. Their enthusiasm, teamwork and determination has earned them these awards,” she said.

Walden along with Skip Enzor are the sponsors to Skip Enzor and Walden serve as sponsors for Andalusia High School broadcasting class. Gabrielle Maloy is the sponsor for the AHS Memolusia yearbook.
