Police in the area are urging residents to get rid of valuables from their vehicles and lock their cars after an rash of “handle draw” thefts that took place that occurred in Andalusia in Andalusia on the night of Sunday.

Officer Chief Paul Hudson said a group of people walked around the town late Sunday night and Monday morning, removing doors of vehicles at the Woodlands, Ashley Point, the country club, as well as in an area near Moore Road.

“If they discovered cars that were not locked and were able to get around them” He said. “If there were doors locked they’d continue to move.

“We typically see a lot of this after school has gone closed,” Hudson said. “In previous years when it was a problem for juveniles, the point that it appears they’ve been able to attain adulthood and continue to do this.”

A APD investigation is in progress and some of the items stolen were recovered. Hudson stated that the investigation will be concluded by the end of the week. In the meantime Hudson reminds residentsto “Take your valuables with you and secure your car.”
