The Covington County Board of Education has approved seven additional personnel items, including an assistant principal during a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday the 27th of June.
Joseph Caldwell was approved as the assistant principal of Red Level School effective at the start of the school year 2023-2024 subject to verification of any the background checks, whether new or already completed. This is the last position to be filled in all positions in the leadership department for the school year that is coming up.
At the time of the meeting, the board also voted:
Resignation
- Victoria Wilson as teacher at Fleeta Junior High School retroactive from June 23
Employment
- James Lamont Russell (Monty) as a physical education teacher for the physical education department at Florala High School effective at the start of the 2023-2024 school term in the event of verification of any current or new background checks
- Halie Dutton Bryant as lunchroom employee in the lunchroom at Straughn Middle School effective at the start of the school year 2023-2024 until the verification of current or new background checks
- Lesley M. Blackwell as lunchroom assistant in the lunchroom at Straughn Middle School effective at the start of the 2023-2024 school term in the event of verification of any current or new background checks
- Calvin Middleton as custodian at Red Level School effective at the start of the 2023-2024 school term in the event of verification of any background checks, whether new or already existing.
- Nikki Crum as special education teacher at RLS in the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, subject to verification of background checks
The board also honored the members from the Straughn High School String Band as well as sponsor Taylor Weeks for winning the 2023 FFA state championship.
“We truly appreciate the effort and hard work the students put into. They have been rewarded for their efforts by us, and we are gratifying everyone,” Superintendent Shannon Driver stated. “I recall the very first group. They were very good back then, and have been great for a long time. They’re good students and have an excellent leader,” Board Member John “Sonny” Thomasson added.
The board has set the date of its next meeting for July 17 at noon at the central office.
