The Covington County Emergency Manager Agency is monitoring a severe storm system that could move into the region Wednesday afternoon and into night.

The risk of severe weather in the west of Covington County was raised to “enhanced” on Tuesday. This includes portions of Escambia County as well as the western Florida panhandle. Covington County lies just outside this area but is listed as having a “slightly” chance of severe storms.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to occur on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night. There is a possibility of severe storms later in the day. A few strong storms may continue to move across the western Florida panhandle through Wednesday night, possibly into Thursday morning.

Storms can bring damaging winds and tornadoes. Tornadoes are most likely to strike the coast in the evening hours. It is possible to receive heavy rain locally.

Officials from the EMA ask residents to pay attention to weather conditions and listen out for warnings.
